Practice film.

This is a short extract from the opening of our film that we shot at college, we didn't have a clown costume so we had to use a big red jumper. We forgot to focus the camera before we started so it may appear blurry. This scene is where we see the clown applying the makeup through the door, then the camera goes through the door and shows close ups of the makeup but because we didn't have any makeup with us we changed it slightly. Also we cut out the starting scene of walking up the stairs as we could not get this to flow into the next clip .
We used an close up of the hand to raise audiences awareness that it is an important part to the film as it dominates most of the shot. The location we used in the college was the best for us as it had the least amount of people and had some of the equipment we needed, e.g. door and stairs. There was enough lighting in the college for us to shoot so there was no need for us to create our own artificial lighting, but on the other hand we wanted it to be darker but there were no blinds in the college for us to do this. We wanted it to be darker to support ideologies or horror films and to show the audience that this character is the villan.
Also we may include a balloon as it is clown related sign of danger .

Evaluation of Preliminary Assessment - Emily Cotterill

Use of the Camera:
Our finished work shows that we can hold a shot steady correctly and frame a shot appropiately. In our piece we used a variety of shot types such as over the shoulder, close ups, long shots and extreme close ups. We used composition techniques well to make sure the shot was always composed correctly and interestingly.
Use of Editing:
When we edited our clip we stuck to the rules of continuity and it shows. The clip flows really well and smoothly. We didn't use any transitions to edit the clips together but we probably should have because some of clips look a little jumpy when placed together and we will make sure we use transitions next time.
Selection of Content:
We used appropiate costume, make-up and props for our genre. For example the black and white makeup on Annalise was appropiate because it made her look dead which fitted in with the horror genre very well. The location we chose for our clip was good to use because it was true to the original and wasn't used alot by the public which made it easier for filming. The actors we used for our film were brilliant, both did as directed and took it seriously so it was quick filming and the finished product looked great.
Self-assessment:
I think that I contributed quite a lot to our intro to a horror film. I did the majority of the filming subsequently being in charge of composition quite often. I think I did a good job of this and our clip is very well composed. Also, I did the makeup for Annalise's character which turned out quite well and looked very effective in our video.

Final Destination 3 Title Sequence Textual Analysis

We liked this because:
Fair Ground style font used - fits in with images shown in opening.
Title sequence ends on the word 'Death' which can shock audiences and relates to the rest of the film.
We like the hole the ball goes through and it cuts to a roller coaster scene which gives the audience a clue about the disaster about to happen. We also like that the like that the title sequence was bold and black to fit in with the horror genre.
Pictures from the opening sequence:
